UHAM-150 Universal Heavy-Duty Mount for Motorized & Screwdriver HF Antennas

The '150 is our HORIZONTAL SURFACE mount, to attach medium and large motorized / scredriver antennas to your bumper or trailer hitch. It fits ANY BRAND of motorized / screwdriver HF Antenna up to 2-1/8" in diameter at the antenna base. The UHAM mounts to your trailer hitch or truck bumper using a bolt or trailer hitch ball with a shank up to 1 inch. The UHAM-150, and similar earlier version '100, have been in use for two years now, with NO RETURNS!

If you are looking for a universal heavy-duty mount for VERTICAL SURFACES, such as a truck bed wall, tool box or almost any sturdy vertical surface, check out our BRAND NEW "UHAM-200". Click on the image below to see the details and to order the '200.

The "horizontal surfaces" (bumper, hitch) UHAM-150 is available in bare aluminum ("Series 12") or in five standard powder coated paint colors ("Series 14"): black, red, white, blue and clear coat (click > Powder Coated Paint Colors).

This is the "gold standard" mount for motorized / screwdriver antennas.

We've had hams tell us that they've researched the market for the "best" mount for their antenna - and found the UHAM mount! There are other perfectly good antenna mounts but here are some reasons why the UHAM-150 is the "gold standard" mount and is more versatile and flexible in mounting than "other brand" mounts:

  • UNIVERSAL  - fits ANY BRAND of antenna that: (1) has a base diameter up to 2-1/8 inches, (2) has an area 2 inches long that is clear of obstructions (bolt heads, wires) approx. 5 to 9 inches (mount is adjustable up-down) above the base of the antenna, and (3) takes a 3/8x24 stud at the base of the antenna. THIS INCLUDES:
    • Hi Q (models 2.5/80 to 4/80 to 5/160)
    • High Sierra, Tarheel
    • other brands of screwdriver antennas that meet three three requirements listed above.
  • HEAVY-DUTY - thick aluminum parts and heavy duty weld with stainless steel hardware that supports the antenna at two places - the base and about 8 inches about the base with a heavy duty stainless steel V-clamp.
  • VARIOUS MOUNTING CONFIGURATIONS - can be mounted to any HORIZONTAL surface, including trailer hitch, back bumper, front bumper, and with our new BKT-TB1 bracket can be mounted to any VERTICAL surface such as truck mounted tool box. The UHAM can be mounted pointing backwards, forwards or to either side. VERY VERSATILE!
  • ADJUSTABLE - allows for up-down and forward-back adjustments to best fit your ANY BRAND antenna....Hi Q Antennas 5/160 to High Sierra HS-1800 and Tarheel models...and other brands as well. No other mount is adjustable to fit various brands of antennas.
  • HEAVY DUTY ANTENNA INSULATION - we provide heavy duty, abrasion resistant, water proof insulation that is thicker than what is used on some other brand mounts around the upper support around the antenna mount.
  • SLEEK LOOKING DESIGN - sleek appearance that can be seen in our photos below.
  • QUICK REMOVAL & "LAYBACK" DESIGN - if you use a quick disconnect (not provided) you can install or remove your antenna in about 20 seconds yet there are no hinges or pins to rattle and potentially affect your SWR by the hinge and pin movement. If your antenna is mounted to the back of your vehicle the base of the antenna can rest in the V-clamp at about a 45 degree angle to get into your trunk, in about 20 seconds.

Why buy another mount just becasue you decide to buy another antenna? You can spend $100 to over $200 for "other brand" mounts that are designed to only fit their antennas. If you buy the UHAM mount it will likely fit your future antennas - the UHAM is the mount you can keep!

Your coax is connected to the bottom of the mount via either of the following methods:

  • Direct connection of your coax without a PL-259 plug to the UHAM ground bolt and your bolt that attaches the bottom of your antenna, via the PROVIDED solder lug kit (kit includes two solder lugs heat shrink tubing for RG58 size coaxial cable, shown in photos below)  -OR-
  • Plug in your coax with a PL-259 connector to the OPIONAL super-heavy duty SO239 antenna mounting system ("SHD SO239").

Your vehicle ground cable is attached to the UHAM via the INCLUDED 1/4x20 stainless steel wing nut (shown in photo below). A second ground bolt (shown in photo to right of wing nut) is also included for your coax ground or if you want to connect a second ground cable. Photos below illustrate how your coax can be connected to the mount and your antenna.

All parts are stainless steel, and Type 6061 aluminum or cast aluminum - top quality materials. The insulation kit includes a 2 inch wide by 18 inch long piece of 3/16" thick EDPM rubber and 5 (five) UV (sunlight) resistant tie stips (use 4, 1 extra "just in case" you loose one). This is shown in the photos below and is enough for your ANY BRAND antenna.

The "side brace" is red. The rear V-clamp mounting plate is blue. This can be ordered below - please scroll down to the ordering section at the bottom of this page.

TO ORDER please go to the bottom of this page, after the photos.

Several photos are shown below to illustrate the appearance, dimensions and installation examples. One of the photos also shows "what you get" - this photo is labeled accordingly.

The photo below shows the bare aluminum version and what you get with a UHAM-150: antenna insulation kit and HEAVY DUTY solder lug/heat shrink tubing kit for your coax - this kit includes a 3/8 inch stainless steel washer for mounting to your 3/8x24 antenna mounting bolt. The hole visible in the photo is for mounting your antenna. Not visible is the 1 inch hole for mounting the UHAM to your truck bumper or trailer hitch, which is behind the side bracket near the wing nut.

The photo below shows the dimensions of the UHAM-150. The width of the "L" bracket part is 2 inches. The thickness of the "L" is 3/4 inches for the bottom section and the vertical secton is 1/2 inches thick.

The photo below shows the "matte black" powder coated version and what you get (same as bare aluminum version).

Additional photos , click UHAM SLIDE SOW

The photo below shows the brand new color, gloss "Bengal Blue" powder coated version. Except for color, all UHAM150's are the same.

The photo below shows the "High Reflective White" powder coated version

The photo below shows the "Clear" powder coat paint over a satin finish. The satin finish is produced by media blasting the bare aluminum in preparation for powder coating. Once the glossy clear coat is applied, it produces an appearance similar to a metic gray car paint. REALLY LOOKS NICE!

The photo below shows the powder coated version, and the masked area on the bottom side to obtain an excellant ground for the optional SHD-SO239. If you don't use the SHD-SO239 this area is covered with an insulating washer (see photo below). All powder coated versions have this masked off area.

The photo below shows how the optional SHD-SO239 looks on the powder coated version.  Also shown is the Hi Q Antennas black insulating washer (only one is needed and only on the antenna side) and Hi Q "GQD" stainless steel quick disconnect.

The photo below shows an example installation of the SHUNT-100 mounted to a powder coated UHAM-150 mount (antenna V-clamp removed) with the optional SHD-SO239 coax connector antenna mounting system. A coax "tee" is plugged into the SHD-SO239: the coax to the radio is shown on the left side of the photo (with one of several Mix 31 ferrite bead filters and the single wire (14 gauge, stranded) connecting the SHUNT-100 is also shown. Please note that the coax, coax plugs, "tee connector, and single wire are not included, as they are standard parts that you may already have.

The photo below shows how the powder coated version looks with an example insulating washer and quick disconnect, if you do not use the optional SHD-SO239. Either way the UHAM150 works and looks GREAT! The example insulator and quick disconnect shown are from Hi Q Antennas but ANY insulating washer set will work that will fit into a 3/4 inch hole and are up to 2 inches in diameter. As you can see, the bottom insulating washer completely covers the masked off area for grounding the SHD-SO239.

The photo below shows the heavy duty solder lugs we provide and how they compare to "standard" lugs. This is how you attach your coax if you do not use the optional SHD-SO239 connector. Either way  your coax fastens to the UHAM150 in an efficient manner.

The photo below shows how to connect your coax to the UHAM-150 with the provided solder lugs and heat shrink tubing for RG58 size coax. Please note that additional weather proofing material, shown in the photo, is not provided and you can use coax putty, electrical tape and / or self fusing tape where the shield and center conductor go into the outter insulation.

The photo below shows how your coax is connected to your antenna with the optional SHD-SO239 connector. With this connector you only need ONE insulating washer, at the base of your antenna.

SO239 example install on UHAM150

The photo below shows a closeup of the optional "SHD SO-230" antenna mounting system. For more information click > "SHD SO239"

The photo below shows one type of antenna insulator and quick disconnect. You can use whatever parts you want so long as they fit on 2 inch wide mount. Shown here is a Hi Q Antennas Giant Quick Disconnect ("GQD" in stainless steel) and black insulating Delrin washers on either side of the UHAM base (3/4 inch thick Type 6061 aluminum). This is only ONE method of fastening your antenna. Other antenna manufacturers have other quick disconnects and insulating washers. A quick disconnect is NOT required but if used enables you to install, remove or layback your antenna in approx. 20 seconds. You DO need to insulate your antenna from the mount (bottom insulator NOT required if you use the optional SHD-SO239 connector.  [Please note that shown here is the UHAM-100 previous version in "matte black" powder coated paint - the new UHAM-150 is identical except does not have the SO239 connector shown at the bottom right of this photo.]

Photo below: Another view of the Hi Q Antennas GQD and insulating washers. Bolt shown is the "standard" 3/8 x 24 size. This is a close-up of the parts shown in the photos above. ANY brand quick disconnect and insulating washers can be used. You only need a quick disconnect if you want the "20 second" antenna removal feature.

The photo below shows the installed insulation kit on a Hi Q Antennas model 5/160 motorized antenna. The insulation is 2 inches wide (vertical dimension as shown here). This antenna has a base diameter of around 1.6 inches and the coil (not shown) is 5 inches in diameter.  For information on Hi Q and other antenna brands go to our Links page.

The photo below shows how the sleek looking design and appearance blends well with your antenna and vehicle. Shown in the photo is a Hi Q Antennas 5/160 antenna with our optional SHUNT-100 (left side of mount) and CNCT-PL259 WXQD (weather resistant quick disconnect PL-259, to the right of the mount). MOUNT: horizontal surface, trailer hitch.

The photo below shows a front mounted UHAM150, Hi Q Antenna , SHUNT-100 (behind UHAM) and SHD-SO239 (SO239 antenna-mounted connector).  MOUNT: horizontal surface, front of F-250 4x4, UHAM turned sideways. Photo courtesy of Gary, W7FSI.

The photo below shows trailer hitch mounted UHAM-150 for Hi Q Antenna  with a SHUNT-100. MOUNT: UHAM150 turned "sideways", receiver trailer hitch on Dodge 4x4. Photo courtesy of Carl, K0KUQ
