I'm now selling a limited number of PL259 connectors and custom made cables, in response to requests from some of my customers. Our business model is mainly to sell unique antenna mounts and accessories that we design and make, but now has shifted slightly to support more of the "plug and play" requests we have gotten. Here are my thoughts about the current connector market and a comment or two about why we are now selling these items. We only sell the highest quality cables and connectors and are not trying to compete with the sellers of the least expensive connectors. These dealers serve an important part of the ham radio market, but we want to support the segment that is looking for top quality that matches our custom designed products. Basically, the cables and connectors we sell match the quality of cables and connectors that are now on the N7EMW mobile and portable antenna setups - I got tired of poor quality connectors that fell apart or did not fit well. I have found suppliers of Amphenol connectors that offer better pricing - I actually went to different suppliers for essentially each different part for good supply and good pricing! Even with better pricing, the Amphenol connectors are expensive. It's simply a matter of one's preferrence and willingness to risk getting inexpensive but poorly made connectors. Not all of the lesser expensive connectors are bad, yet I've found more and more are during the past 5 or more years as companies are seeking the lowest possible manufacturing costs and it seems are putting quality aside. CNCT_PL259-WXQD: Weatherproof quick disconnect for PL259 ("UHF") coax plugs   The CNCT_PL259-WXQD is our custom designed and made weatherproof PL259 coax quick disconnect, for mobile and outdoor installations, for protecting your coax plug when your antenna is removed, includes weather cap and ¼” mounting bolt. Have you ever removed your antenna from your vehicle or fixed base location, only to wonder what to do with the PL259 plug so it was not "hanging in the wind and rain"? Or have you unwrapped the electrical tape from your PL259 plug so you could remove your antenna ? These are the questions I was pondering before coming up with the solution that has worked well for me and resulted in the "PL259 WXQD"! I occassionally remove my trailer hitch mounted HF motorized antenna when taking my car to the repair shop and during winter weather when the roads are heavily deiced - I don't want to corrode my motorized antenna! Since the antenna is on a hitch receiver it can be removed in a couple of minutes but the coax and PL259 plug was an issue - I had run the coax through the rear door on my stationwagon but because of the tight spacing of the door the coax was taking a beating. I wanted a way to run the coax through a rubber plug on the trunk floor and leave it there, with some way to keep the plug protected when the antenna was off and also while being use. The "PL259 WXQD" is my solution - see the two photos below (note that the PL259 plug in the photo had not yet been weatherproofed when the photo was taken - this end is always connected). This solution also works well on fixed-base antennas, where you want to switch antennas or take the antenna inside when not being use, especially in antenna restricted areas. The "CNCT" has been tested to have very low loss: only 1 watt (1%) loss was measured through the "CNCT", on 10m and 6m. This cable is used to connect the "hot side" of your antenna via the antenna base bolt, to the SO239 barrel connector on several of our flat mounts. The PL259 is an Amphenol 83-1SP plug and you can order the solder lug (we solder the connector) in sizes 1/4", 3/8" (most common antenna base bolt size) or 1/2" (Hi Q "ruggedized" HF motorized antennas). We also install heat shrink tubing. This is a ONE conductor cable made from Belden RG8. This cable is used to connect the 1/4" wing nut on our SHUNT100  HF load inductor, mounted on our "UHAM " and "BKT " flat mounts, to a PL259 "tee" connector (not included) on the base of your antenna. This jumper is to be installed parallel with your coax center conductor. The jumper is 7.5 inches long, which is long enough to fit our mounts. If you need a slightly longer cable for "another brand" mount, you may need to order the one above which is 1.5 feet long. NOTE: This cable is similar to the one in the photo EXCEPT only has a 1/4" solder lug.

Custom RG-8 Cables - Made To YOUR Specifications

We now make custom RG8 cables to your specifications, any length, using high quality material: Belden RG8 coax, Amphenol PL259 plugs and/or heavy-duty solder lugs that take 16 to 12 gauge wire. Cables terminated with PL259 plugs on BOTH ends is 100% shielded. Cables terminate with solder lugs on either end is 97% shielded, for assembly purposes (the foil covering the center conductor cannot be removed). We can provide the following terminations:

• Amphenol #83-1SP PL259 plug, solder type, silver plated pin and body.
• Solder lugs, HD for #16-12 wire, to fit bolt sizes 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2".
• No terminations on ONE end, stripped or not, length that center conctor is stripped can be specified.

Please note that we do not sell coax by itself. We do however sell a few PL259 connectors, see the section below on "PL259 Connectors".
